Pamporovo And Mechi Chal

Pamporovo is a modern ski resort, one of the largest in Bulgaria and one of the most popular in Eastern Europe. At the heart of the Rhodope Mountains, Pamporovo, located within the Municipality of Chepelare, is the sunniest Bulgarian winter ski resort situated at an altitude of 5,413ft (1,650m) and has wonderful snow throughout the season.
The area has no history of major avalanches or violent changes in the weather making it a safe and relaxing place for ski, snowboard, cross country ski or snow hiking.
The ski slopes in the resort are perfectly maintained throughout the whole season. The capacity of the lifts in the resort is 8600 persons per hour. The total length of the ski slopes in Pamporovo is 55 km. Over 10 million BGN were invested in the improvement of the ski zone of the resort for the past three years. The resort also offers a 150 m long and 3 m high half – pipe, which provides great conditions for snowboarding.

The unique Mediterranean climate is extremely healthy and provides excellent conditions for climatic therapy and health tourism all year round.
The Perelik Expansion Project
Pamporovo is undergoing an intense development and expansion. The Perelik Sport Development Project is set to link Pamporovo to the nearby resort of Chepelare and nearby villages, increasing pistes length to over 200km in total.At the present moment most of the hotels in Pamporovo are 4 -star and offer a wide range of facilities - spa, indoor-swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, golf club, etc.

Activities In Pamporovo
The Ski season in Pamprovo comes hand in hand with a full programme of events and activities, ranging from bum-boarding to a raucous ski-instructor’s show. Bowling is offered at hotels, ice-skating, skidoos and tobogganing and snow-tubing are popular pastimes, and excursions to nearby places of interest and Sofia are on offer.
The area has many good starting points for hiking, mountain biking or horseback riding around the region of Pamporovo. Trails that cross the main ridges in southern Bulgaria, Mt. Chernatitsa, Perelink, and Prespa can be accessed from here.

Night Life And Restaurants In Pamporovo
Plenty of pubs, restaurants and night clubs in Pamporovo offer great value for money. A large 500ml beer can cost less than £1, and a basic meal is approximately £5 -£10. Food varies from cheap local traditional cuisine (kebapche, kyufte, tarator, shopska salad) to Greek and Mediterranean specialties and Italian specialties.
Après ski in Pamporovo is lively with plenty of options to choose from, whether you prefer sipping wine in a cosy piano bar, or partying the night away in a club. Most popular choices are:
- The White Hart: Reported to be the hottest spot this winter. Traditionally designed pub with own unique style. Run by Steve Clark this place is the best for party, loads of amusements, Karaoke every Thur, very good food, etc.
- BJ's: in the lobby of hotel Perelik.
- Dak's Bar: on the ground floor of hotel Snejanka.
- Night Flight: in hotel Rojen. A new disco, the largest in Pamporovo.
- Baj Ilia: a locals' favourite with tasty cheap Bulgarian food; a few more small restaurants are clustered nearby.

  Pamporovo and Mechi Chal 

Pamporovo has excellent skiing and snowboarding facilities - 27 km of high-class ski runs and 39km of off-pistes cross-country tracks. Eighteen lifts (including a new 4-seater) have the capacity to serve 9000 skiers every hour. The ski pistes offer different level of difficulty - from super advanced (The wall) to beginners (the Tourist Track - 4km long). In Pamporovo you can find ski and snowboard schools with over a hundred qualified English speaking teachers/instructors. Daily lift pass is less than 20 pounds and at a half price for the kids. Ski rental equipment is also available at several locations.

Try the Hotel Markony at the ski centre 2, roaring log fire and great bar meals - a lovely place to end the day and meet up with the rest of the group before getting the bus back to the town centre.

NEW to 2008/2009 ski season is the 6 seater chair lift to the village of Stoikite. Two new red runs have been cut from the Snezhanka peak down the the village. This is not currently shown on the piste map.

Skiing In Pamporovo

There are ski runs of all degrees of difficulty in Pamporovo. Most of the tracks start from the very peak. Also, there are three cross-country runs in the resort, with total length of around 40 km.
Advanced Skiers
Jump on the drag lift from the middle station which runs up the side of “The Wall”. It is the most difficult ski run in the resort. The other difficult piste starts from the TV tower, after the last station of the triple chair, go right, pistes called Snejanka.
Intermediate Skiers
The total length of ski runs which are suitable for Intermedaites is approx. 20 km. These skiers can jump on the triple chairlift from the Malina station going to the top of Snejanka peak. Or, a single chair lift goes to the middle station, from where the new four persons lift runs up to the peak.
Ski Beginners
Can start with the ski school of Pamporovo, which is quite famous for the quality of tuition. Starting on the nursery slopes, after few days they will be able to ski on the higher ski runs.

Shopping In Pamporovo

Two small shopping centres provide the resort with most of its retail needs. The new Pamporovo Shopping Centre (opposite Hotel Perelik)and adjacent to Snezhanka Hotel has small shops selling snazzy shades, chunky silver jewellery and sports gear.

Opposite is the larger Shopping Centre (linking the Hotel Perelik and Hotel Murgavets). Its ground floor souvenir shop sells beauty creams made from local natural rose oil, painted ceramics, the ubiquitous Russian Dolls and handmade crystal ornaments. The ground floor also has plenty of ski gear shops, including Select sports store, with all the top names in boots, skis and snowboards.

Latest News for Pamporovo

Pamporovo now plans to extend the ski zone of the resort towards the Stoykite village, just several kilometres south of the resort. During the past year the Perelik Project for the construction of a six seat chair lift was developed and already has an approved eco assessment. The new lift will service two brand new ski slopes with a total length of 6 km, which will be build this year. The main goal of the project is to connect the ski zones of Chepelare, Pamporovo and Perelik ski resorts.

The nearest attractions to Pamporovo are Chepelare ski resort 10km Northeast, the architectural preserve of Shiroka Luka 15km West and the Wonder Bridges a natural phenomena 35 km North. Do not miss the panoramic cafe of the TV tower on Mount Snezhanka, and its observation gallery giving a splendid view toward the mountains.

Resorts Close To Pamporovo Ski Apartment

From the Snezhanka Hotel there are free shuttle buses to the ski centres Studenets and Malina Village. The latter can be reached on foot in 30 minutes. There are also buses to the nearby ski resort of Chepelare, 10km (6 miles) north and it may be possible to get (indirect) buses to the small new snowboarding centre of Momchilovtsi, 12km (7 miles) east. Once the Perelik project is complete, there will be better transport facilities to other local ski resorts.
